A fatal scan, an anomaly scan or the famous ultra sound scan lets your doctor have a close inspection at your baby and the situation of the uterus. This scan is carried out to check if the baby is developing normally and if the situation of the uterus is good for the baby. You can undergo this scan when you are between 18 weeks and 20 weeks plus six days pregnant. If your baby is 20 weeks old in the womb, you will be able to see the face and the hands of your baby. This test could be a very exciting to you since may be this can be the first time you see your baby. You can also determine the gender of your baby through this scan, but the most important reason to undergo this scan is to check if the growth of your baby is normal and healthy. Another thing you should keep in mind is that the gender of your baby which is determined through this scan might be not accurate due to the facts such as wind and tummy fat. More than the gender of your baby, it is the shape and structure of your baby’s head, your baby’s spine, baby’s abdominal wall, heart, stomach, kidneys, baby’s arms, legs, hands and feet are what are inspected through this test.
Fetal scanning is performed on following days
- Dating scans on Saturdays,
- Anomaly scans on Tuesdays,
- Growth scans On Sundays.
Dating scans are done between 12th to 13th weeks of pregnancy. Anomaly scans are done between 20th and 22nd weeks. Growth scan are done around 32 weeks.
For dating scan it’s necessary for you to come with a full bladder. Other scans having full bladder is not essential. Fasting is not at all necessary for fetal scan.
